Common challenges

Speaking with employees across New Zealand, it is clear, we expect more from our workplaces to help support our overall health and wellbeing to perform better inside and outside of work. Conversations uncovered common reasons the current support systems in place do meet the mark.

  • Sometimes the hardest part is knowing where to start. What should I work on first? I feel healthy but is there something I should do to maintain my health? If I am in desperate need for help and support, where do I go?

  • Sometimes it can be hard to remember what support and benefits you can access. Without trawling through old onboarding emails or flicking through pages on intranet or sharepoint, I can’t find what I want when I need it.

  • Some people have reservations about using traditional EAP therapy services. Not wanting to see someone in person or chat on the phone or via VC. There can also be reservations around the confidentiality of those appointments and what might be shared with employers.

  • Life gets busy! Sometimes it is hard to find the time to reach out, book an appointment and find enough time to catch up. Some people find it difficult to find the time to take the first step to pick up the phone or go see someone.

  • Don’t like being in group sessions? Don’t feel comfortable seeing someone in person? Prefer to learn things at your own pace, in your own time? Or need a little encouragement but don’t know who to ask? Everyone seeks help differently.
